you the bizarre ending to an interview today. >>> and big news tonight. ambassador susan rice will meet face-to-face with john mccain tomorrow. >>> plus, he's the wrong with everything wrong with politics in america and now donald's kids know it. what happened in the trump political intervention? >>> and we'll tell you what joe biden is doing in this picture. you're watching "politicsnation" on msnbc. there are patients who will question, why does my mouth feel dryer than i remember it to be? there are more people taking more medication, so we see people suffering from dry mouth more so. we may see more cavities, bad breath, oral irritation. a dry mouth sufferer doesn't have to suffer. i would recommend biotene. the enzymes in biotene products help supplement enzymes that are naturally in saliva. biotene helps moisten those areas that have become dry. those that are suffering can certainly benefit from biotene. >>> what did the gop learn from that devastating election defeat? not enough. in some places they just picked up where they left off before the election. that's next. >

. >> susan rice back for more on capitol hill with failing to persuade more republican senators. >> i would need to have additional information before i could support her nomination. i think it will be premature for me to reach that judgment now. >> i would just ask the president to step back. >> senate republican kelly ayotte, who has threatened to block a rice nomination, joins us ahead. and powerball fever sweeping the nation. the jackpot now jumps to $500 million. the second highest in lottery history. what would you do with your winning ticket. >> i would take my entire family on a cruise around the world. >> a sports car for me. >> aston martin. >> i'll pinch myself. >> i would pinch myself too. good day, i'm andrea mitchell live in washington. thanks for joining us. you can bet this is not the way mitt romney had hoped to get to the white house. instead of measuring the drapes in the oval office he'll be the president's guest for lunch. their first meeting since that last debate. joining me now for our daily fix, chris cizilla, msnbc contributor and managing editor of post politics.c

. ambassador to the united nations susan rice came under fire from republican senators, senators john mccain and lindsey graham back at it trying to trump up the ben gansy roles. they took their shots and the president hit back. >> if senator mccain and others want to go after somebody, they should go after meand i'm happy to have that discuss with them. but for then to go after the u.n. ambassador, who had nothing to do with benghazi and was simply making a presentation based on intelligence she had received and to besmirch her reputation is outrageous. >> that's loyalty to a staff nem. if looks could kill, the president's look would be a cruise missile. >> it was the most sustained anger, i think it will be the most sustained inc.er that we have seen and will see coming from this president in a display in a television news conference. now, there is no evidence the ambassador did anything wrong regarding the benz attacks. president obama is not about to let a member of his administration get drugged through the mud by the righties. he was also very calculating on his take on the scandal

to resolve some of that. even susan rice and what may be her political future if she were to be nominated from the secretary of state position. having that focus on her is also another way of shining a light on benghazi and trying to get more answers. so that's part of what we see is happening. it's complicated, but there seems to be movement in getting key people here to talk about what went on, what was known, and why some things happened that resulted in those deaths. thomas? >> real quickly. yesterday lindsay graham and mccain teaming up to announce the desire for a select committee. >> a select committee would give broad jurisdiction where different committees would have the resources to sort of work together. you saw it in water gate. there are other doing work that said we don't need to establish another one. so it's not openly welcomed as an idea. but it's a way to try to shine a light on the issues. so that's yet to be seen. investigations are under way in different ways. we'll see if a select committee ever happens. >> i appreciate it. i want to say good morning to the political

referring to susan rice. to my ears that second clip sounds like what is known in military circles as a retreat. is that right? >> well, i think -- yes, it's right, martin, and senator mccain's retreat if that's what you want to call it, pretty good word, by the way, for this actually started a week ago sunday. this is the second sunday in a row where he is laying the groundwork for letting susan rice vhave her say if she's nominated. this seems prudent because carrying on a campaign against her when you don't know for sure if obama wants to nominate her can only go so far until something else happens. what senator mccain said two weeks ago is i think he wants an apology from her. that's the word he used. i don't know if he would get that because the administration says there's nothing to apologize for when it comes to ambassador rice. but, yes, change of tone, maybe a change of what his position will be when and if she's nominated. >> john, if i can finish with you, john, do you think that in light of what happened, the attacks on susan rice and now this apparent retreat, do you t

indignation and umbrage that susan rice is being rhetorically bruted about here by john mccain and lindsey graham and other republicans who have come out harshly against her in that appearance she made on "meet the press" and elsewhere days after the september 11th attacks because she was by the cia's own admission relaying the information, the latest intelligence, as provided by the cia. many people obviously have problems with the way this went down, with the way information was disseminated, and that's still being hashed out and it will continue to be hashed out when we're likely to see the former director of cia, david petraeus, on the hill behind closed doors. whether or not they actually go through with the susan rice nomination to succeed hillary clinton, we don't know at this point. i certainly think that they would not shy away from the fight if they thought that susan rice was the best person for that nomination. >> did you not get the impression yesterday, mike, that that was the implication of the president's assertion that he really does want to appoint her and he will push it

neeratt tandon massachusetts senator john kerry, susan rice, national security adviser tom donilon. although there's been talk about the benghazi attacks may have hurt her chances. is kerry the front runner? >> kerry has a lot going for him because he has negotiated around the world. he's been senate foreign relations chair. he obviously spent a lot of time with the president. we shouldn't underestimate how important @ to have a real chemistry with the president. there's a lot of trust to develop. obviously president obama and secretary of state hillary clinton had a great chemistry and really relied on each other. there was a trust built up there. so i think that's the real test is whether the president can really trust john kerry to speak for him and he e spent a lot of time with him recently. so i think he has a good sense of that by now. >> there's been a lot of talk about by the president about bipartisanship. this is one area where people have suggested maybe he'd reach across the aisle and pick a republican. names mentioned included jon huntsman, chuck hagel and colin powell
